Our projects are strategically crafted under an Article 6 compliant approach, aligning with the collaborative mechanisms outlined in the Paris Agreement. The Article 6 framework fosters international cooperation, enabling heightened ambition in mitigation actions and emphasizing sustainable development with environmental integrity. This commitment not only underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship but also guarantees high standards of integrity, transparency, and compliance, maximizing the impact and value of our projects.
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR ITMOS
High-Quality Nature-Based ITMOs for CO2 emission Compliance markets.
Blue Carbon is seeking Expressions of Interest (EoI) for future and upcoming Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) from our Zimbabwe project. This project, spanning 5.1 million hectares, produces approximately 18,034,700 tCO2 carbon credits annually. Your non-binding EOI will allow your entity to be granted right of first refusal to the project pipeline and give you first access to ITMOs, which are currently in demand for compliance markets towards meeting countries net zero targets and in scarce supply.
This pipeline of ITMOs is meant to comply with a country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), NetZero targets, and/or CORSIA and be at the forefront of global climate action.
Difference between ITMOs and Voluntary Credits
ITMOs differ from Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) credits in that they are directly linked to national targets under the Paris Agreement, providing a regulated and internationally recognized framework for compliance. Through the stringent guidelines provided by Article 6 of the Paris agreement, ITMOs offer high credibility and are essential for countries and companies aiming to meet their NDCs and other formal compliance requirements such as CORSIA. VCM credits lack binding international oversight that ensures the same level of accountability and impact as ITMOs. By purchasing these Mitigation Outcomes, entities demonstrate a commitment to rigorous environmental standards and contribute to globally coordinated climate action.
Project Highlights
- Location: The Zimbabwe project spans an impressive 5.1 million hectares, making it one of the largest nature-based solutions initiatives.
- Activities: The project focuses on reforestation, agroforestry, and improved agricultural management, all designed to sequester carbon effectively and sustainably.
- Methodologies applicable : CDM methodologies (e.g. AR-ACM0003), Verra methodologies (e.g. VM0047) – where applicable.
- Compliance: Our ITMOs are Article 6-compliant, supporting not only NDCs but also CORSIA compliance for international aviation, making them versatile for various regulatory frameworks. Blue Carbon’s MOs offer a practical solution especially for hard to abate sectors seeking to fulfil NetZero targets, meet their compliance requirements and contribute significantly to global climate goals.
Social and Environmental Impact
- Community Benefits: The project promotes sustainable agriculture, creates employment opportunities, diversifies income sources, and empowers women, fostering community resilience and socio-economic growth.
- Environmental Benefits: By addressing issues such as deforestation, fires, and land degradation, the project conserves biodiversity, enhances crop yields, and supports alternative livelihoods, delivering wide-ranging environmental benefits.
- Project will be scored against the UNFCCC Social Development Tool to ensure project integrity and adherence to international best practices and standards.
Crediting Details
- Vintage: First issuance is expected by the end of 2025 albeit the quantity in year 1 may be limited. Additional vintages will follow regularly, and issuances can be negotiated depending on quantities. Project is underway, ensuring timely availability of credits.
- Duration: The project has a 30-year crediting period, providing long-term environmental asset supply.
- Standards: Adheres to CDM methodologies – as per Article 6 guidelines. To add an additional layer of accountability the project will abide by Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards, and Core Carbon Principles. This ensures rigorous baseline establishment, monitoring, and verification processes, guaranteeing that the carbon sequestration activities are real, measurable, and verifiable.
